Research firm firm, Synovate published their latest survey which found that Hong Kong women were the most financially independent in this part of the world (Asia) with an 81 percent rate. From among the 2,000 women surveyed from Hong Kong, Singapore, China and Malaysia, 87 percent were free to voice their say when it came to major financial expenditures in the family unit.

The 2006 census released last year stated that the number of unmarried Hong Kong women living on their own rose by 43.8 percent from 2001 to 2006.
